Hi, I’m Barbara Fernandez and I’m a comedian, video presenter, singer, writer, speaker, and voiceover actor. I also make lots of food (more than I can possibly eat) and play clunky chords on the piano while singing to excise my inner demons and amuse my cat. I started performing as a child in the end-of-year school dance recitals where I would sing Judy Garland songs armed with a feather boa and then tapdance in circles around the stage. Many musical productions and plays followed, with my favorite being Company! where I got to sing The Ladies Who Lunch (probably one of my favorite songs of all time).
I began a professional singing career in Paris, France (because what else do you do if you don’t want to become a New York waitress while waiting for your acting break?) My first royalty check came from a French song L’Amour de la Francophonie (The Love of the French Language which frankly doesn’t sound as cool in English) which was a big hit in nightclubs in Japan (go figure). I’d put a clip here, but this was BEFORE THE INTERNET (sigh). Before social media. Before mobile phones. When you had to have a record company to be able to do anything, and nothing was digital – I have my first record on a cassette tape(!)
Today I combine a comedy career with making videos where I get all enthusiastic in front of the camera (easy for me) – I make cat vlogs for the Relax My Cat YouTube channel with my furry costar Sponge. I also lend my voice to podcasts such as the SOL CBD podcast (all about weed, yeah) and e-learning videos like Kobi where young children learn math (thank goodness I didn’t write the scripts, or no one would learn how to count anything).
I also am a passionate advocate for mental health, as mine has been up, down, and all-around from a very early age (but that’s a story for another time).
